EMTs moved to tears after ‘recovering addict’ surprises them with an unexpected gesture
Immersed in the realities of a fast-paced world, sometimes all it takes is a moment to look around and appreciate the goodness our beautiful world is filled with. In a heartwarming incident, five EMTs were brought to a teary-eyed surprise when they discovered that their meal was paid for.
In the wee hours of July 20, a team of volunteers was having a meal at IHOP in Toms River, New Jersey. The group learned that an anonymous woman had paid their entire US$77 bill and left a heartfelt note.
The note read, “Paid, thank you for all you do! Have a great day!” and signed “Recovering addict.”
After this surprising incident, the squad shared a photo of the warm note on their Facebook page in the hope of finding the kindhearted stranger, who paid for all the five meals that night.

The grateful first aid staff also mentioned how “blessed [they were] to be able to serve you and everyone else who lives and works in the greater Toms River area.”
“It was just a reminder that there is still so much good in the world,” Squad Captain Alyssa Golembeski told NJ.com. “The note and paying for our breakfast…we are a boisterous bunch but that brought our table to complete silence.”
Golembeski also added, “We were practically in tears.”
This EMS week; we'd like to take the time to thank all of our members; past and present for all of the hard work that…
The post has garnered more than 1,000 likes and over 700 shares ever since. One commenter shared, “This story made my day, when I heard it on the radio. To the volunteers. Thank you.”
Another commenter wrote, “I just hit 3 years into my recovery and this story touched my heart!”
Though the stranger still remains a mystery, this story is yet another example of how human values and virtues are still not lost—indeed, there is still hope for humanity.
