When their minivan reached the destination, the driver parked for the passengers to disembark.

A woman exited first and opened her umbrella to shield herself and an elderly man from the sun. The man was having trouble getting out of the van with his walking aid, so the woman looked around for help.

She spotted a police officer in the vicinity and called him over. The policeman, later identified as PO1 Jerald Lagazon, immediately stopped what he was doing and went over to lend a hand.

After assisting the man out of the car, Lagazon noticed that his shoelaces had come undone. Without hesitation, Lagazon knelt down on the pavement to tie them for the man.

A bystander in the area witnessed the kind act and took pictures. The photos were then uploaded to PNP Good Deeds, a community Facebook page that highlights the good work done by the Philippine National Police.

Soon, the photo received much attention with netizens lauding the police officer’s actions.

One user commented, “I salute you sir.”

“An Officer and a Gentleman [sic],” another poster said.

They say actions speak louder than words, and in the case of police officer Lagazon, who acted not only in line with duty but also with his heart, this clearly holds true.
