Homeless man asks stranger for spare change, but instead, he’s offered a job on the spot
One homeless Brit’s life-changing story is inspiring thousands of people on social media. He has made a complete 180-degree turn in his life—thanks to a kind businessman and many anonymous strangers.
Having slept and begged on the streets of Newcastle for three years, Ryan Davidson, 25, had encountered all kinds of unimaginable things.
“I did come across some really horrible people,” Davidson said, according to The Mirror.
He was pessimistic about the future until he chanced upon one exceptionally nice guy—40-year-old businessman James Minns—one evening in early July.
Right so this kid (a beggar in Newcastle) has just told me he has been out of work and homeless for 3 years and he has…
Davidson asked Minns for spare change as he walked past.
Minns, a father of two from Washington, England, gave him 20 pounds (approx. US$25.50) and more!
When Minns came to know the young lad had been jobless for three years and had been in and out of care homes and hospitals, he offered him a job as a laborer at his powder-coating firm.
“I’m not bothered by his past. I just want him to move forward,” Minns said.
Look who’s here. First day at work for Ryan. Over the moon to see him. Hopefully the beginning of great things for him
Minns shared the encounter on Facebook, and his friends praised him for his kind gesture.
But unfortunately, Davidson didn’t show up for work on Monday, July 9. Minns rang him several times but there was no answer.
Disappointed by his no-show, Minns wrote on Facebook, “Totally gutted.”
Morning everyone, unfortunately Ryan didn’t show up. Ian Erniethemilkman Cutts was there at 6.30am to pick him up….
However, the next morning, Minns was over the moon to see Davidson!
It transpired Davidson had an emergency housing appointment on Monday, and he couldn’t contact Minns because his phone had run out of credit.
A day went by, then a month. Davidson diligently turned up for work every day. He proved to be a hard worker.
“This is up to me now. I just have to put 100 percent in and graft hard,” Davidson told ChronicleLive.
After having his job for nearly a month, Ryan has now signed for his very first flat. Thanks to Dave Bellenger for…
In an update on Aug. 8, a grinning Davidson was pictured holding the keys to his very first flat.
That’s not all.
Kindhearted strangers have donated over 2,500 pounds (approx. US$3,186) for Davidson—far exceeding the 500-pound (approx. US$637) target—via a crowdfunding page Minns set up for him.
“I am intending to use the money to help him with his rent/bond and set up costs,” Minns wrote.
Davidson was grateful to Minns for the opportunity. “I really appreciate it,” he said.
“It has opened my eyes to how generous and kind people can be,” Davidson told BBC News. “I’ve never met anyone like James—he has changed my life completely.”
Thanks Minns and all those who have contributed. We can all make a difference in someone’s life—just be kind!
