Little boy with dwarfism finds comfort in a shih tzu pup with the same condition

A little boy who was born with dwarfism had experienced a horrible childhood after being taunted or stared at because of his appearance. Fortunately, his family found him a little puppy that has the same condition, and he couldn’t be happier about it.

Quaden Bayles, from Brisbane, Australia, was diagnosed with achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism, at birth. Due to his appearance, Quaden had often been bullied or stared at, which was heartbreaking for his mom, Yarraka Bayles.

“Strangers in the street stop and stare at him and he’s been called ‘ugly’, a ‘freak’ and a ‘midget’ by others. It’s heartbreaking,” she told Caters News Agency.

After Quaden realized that he was different from others, Bayles tried to “boost his confidence” with positive reinforcement.

But it didn’t work when the kids at school pointed him out.

“He started shouting ‘What are you looking at’ to people he caught glaring at him. He’s very vocal about his how much he hates being made to feel different,” Bayles said.

Quaden even refused to hear the word “dwarf” being mentioned.

Then, the family happened to learn of a shih tzu named Buddy that has the same condition, which they were quick to adopt.

Since the addition of the little white pooch, Quaden started changing.

“Quaden just adores his new pal and they do everything together,” Bayles said.

“Buddy comes up to Quaden’s waist and is the perfect companion. Quaden is so proud of Buddy and the fact he has dwarfism too.

“We went to the park the other day and he was telling everyone they were both dwarves. It was lovely to see.”

“Buddy has been a blessing for Quaden,” Bayles added.

“They really are in this journey together and I hope their story helps other people realise it’s cool to be small.”

Unfortunately, Quaden couldn’t keep Buddy with him forever as the pup’s previous owners took him back, according to the Facebook page Stand Tall 4 Dwarfism.

Despite this, the family is still glad that Buddy had once been part of their lives. It also goes to show how animals can have a therapeutic effect on their owners.
