Man fails job interview as he has no email—then he uses $10 to build a business empire
Words of Wisdom aims to highlight important morals, which we feel our readers will benefit from reading. We hope you enjoy this fable.
When you’re feeling discouraged, remember this—“While there’s life, there’s hope!” Below, we’ve retold a story that best illustrates the above statement.
One day, a jobless young man went to a big company to apply for the position of office boy. The HR manager interviewed him then gave him a test—to clean the floor.
“You are hired,” the HR manager said, after the man passed the “test” with flying colors.
The HR manager said, “Give me your email address, and I’ll send you the application form to fill in, as well as the date when you should report for work.”
The man simply replied: “I don’t have a computer. Neither do I have an email.”
What came next was an unexpected response from the HR manager, who said: “I’m sorry. You can’t have the job if you don’t have an email.”
The man left the company, feeling hopeless. He only had $10 in his pocket. What could he do to survive?
With that $10, he bought a crate of tomatoes at a supermarket. He thought he could sell the tomatoes to earn his daily bread.
So, he went peddling the crate of tomatoes door to door. In less than two hours, he sold all his tomatoes and doubled his $10 capital.
The man decided to try selling more tomatoes, and lo and behold, he did this successfully several more times, earning $60. He realized he was able to survive if he continued this way.
So, he started peddling door to door every day. Each day, he would leave early and return home late. He worked pretty tirelessly. His money doubled and tripled as the days went by.
Soon, he was able to buy a cart using his profits, and then, a truck.
He successfully grew his business, and shortly afterwards, he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.
Five years later, the man became one of America’s biggest food retailers.
Now that he was successful, he began planning for his family’s future, and called a broker to choose a life insurance plan.
At the end of their phone conversation, the broker asked the man for his email.
The man replied, “I don’t have an email.”
The broker was surprised. “You don’t have an email, but yet, you managed to build an empire. Can you imagine what position you could have if you had an email?” he exclaimed.
The man was silent for a while, before he answered, “An office boy!”
Did this motivational story bring a smile to your face? When life doesn’t go as planned, don’t be discouraged, as there is always a way out for those who try.
Just as English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking said, “However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.”
Remember, “a closed door still has a way out,” but, “a closed mind doesn’t.” There are better opportunities awaiting us if we stay optimistic!
