Man gives Chick-fil-A cashier $1,000 to pay for other customers’ meals to brighten their day
One mysterious customer’s act of generosity at a Texas Chick-fil-A brightened up the day of 88 other patrons on a gloomy Monday.
In September 2014, at around 7 p.m. on a Monday, a man named “John” drove his white truck through a Chick-fil-A drive-thru lane in Abilene, Texas.
He ordered an eight-piece chicken nugget with a Dr. Pepper. When it was time to pay, he handed the cashier 10 bills totaling $1,000.
John told the cashier he’d like to pick up the tab for everyone else in the drive-thru line behind him.
Team leader Duste Wolf was shocked. “Did you win the lottery today?” she asked John.
His answer? He simply wanted to make someone else’s day.
“He was like, ‘Mondays are tough and I want to make everyone have a good day, to help them have a good day,’” Wolf told ABC7.
Chick-fil-A decided to give John a free meal, and with his $1,000, the fast-food restaurant covered the meals of the next 88 customers driving through the drive-thru lane.
“For the next hour, he bought everyone’s meal,” the franchise owner Brian LaCroix told KRBC.
John’s pay-it-forward act left many customers surprised, with varied reactions.
Thinking it was a joke, some of the patrons were reluctant to take their food whilst others expressed great joy on receiving the free meal.

One female customer, who had a bad day, was so touched that she began crying.
“We need to think about other people, not just ourselves and putting a little bit of joy in someone’s life unexpectedly is a real blessing,” customer Barry Taylor said.
Surely, it’s truly a blessing to John as his act of generosity that day made 88 people happy. And who knows if his kind gesture inspired the recipients to pay it forward too, as the ripple effect of one act of kindness is endless.
